Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council's (BBSRC) Review of Data-Intensive Bioscience has been published with our input. The report recommends increasing capacity in computational skills, establishment of professional roles to support data-intensive research, and investment in provision of high-quality software resources for the research community.

Based on input from the bioscience community engaged in data-intensive research, the report provides a signpost towards future UK Research and Innovation (UKRI)-BBSRC activity. This provides insight into our understanding of the research landscape in this area and highlights current issues and future needs. The report also showcases some of the exciting data-intensive research being carried out by UK bioscientists.

In considering the evidence gathered from our community, the Expert Group that provided advice to UKRI-BBSRC through the review process has developed seven key recommendations to support the continued expansion of bioscience as a data-intensive discipline, including that “UKRI-BBSRC should significantly increase its investment in provision of high-quality software and data resources for the research community”.
