As the climate crisis intensifies, the need to reduce the environmental impact of research has never been more urgent. We invite you to join us for not one, but two Birds of a Feather (BoF) sessions on Green RSE at RSECon24, Thursday 5 September.
These sessions are open to everyone—no prior knowledge is needed. We aim to explore this critical issue from multiple perspectives and build a community dedicated to creating sustainable research software practices.
In the morning session (11:00-12:30 in G.56), we’ll kick off with talks covering an introduction to Green RSE, insights from a funder’s perspective, and experiences from an RSE group that has embraced green practices. We’ll also conduct an online survey to gather your views.
In the afternoon session (14:00-15:15 in G.56), we’ll dive into discussions on how we can collaborate to advance sustainability in research software. We’ll tackle questions like: What role can RSEs play in driving sustainability? What barriers do we face? These discussions will contribute to the development of a "green research software roadmap" and the launch of a new Special Interest Group on Green RSEs.
Join us to help shape the future of sustainable research software!
