Martin Donnelly is Principal Data Steward and Head of Data Governance in Advanced Research Computing at University College London (UCL). His academic background is in English Literature, Information Technology and Digital Humanities, and he has previously held roles at the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh, the Royal Society of Chemistry, and at Edinburgh College of Art.
Martin has a longstanding interest in scientific/research policy and the interrelation of different output types across the scholarly lifecycle. He has presented about data management planning, Open Science and research support in approximately twenty countries across four continents, and provided advice and consultancy to numerous UK, European and international organisations, including Defra, the European Commission, the European University Institute, and the World Bank.
Externally, Martin has been a member of the Digital Preservation Coalition's Management & Governance and Communications & Advocacy sub-committees, the Databib advisory board, the US DMPTool steering group, and was founding Secretary to the UK CODATA national committee. He has been a Fellow of the Software Sustainability Institute since 2018.
