We are excited to announce that Franziska Heine will be keynoting at Collaborations Workshop 2019 and will share with attendees the lessons that Wikipedia learnt regarding interoperability, documentation, training and sustainability.

Franziska Heine is the Head of Software & Development at Wikimedia Deutschland, the German chapter of the organisation behind Wikipedia and an association "to support the creation, collection and distribution of Open Content in an altruistic way in order to support equal opportunity to access to knowledge and education."

Franziska studied media design in Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and her thesis was on software for analysing video recordings. During her career, she’s spent most of her time as a Product Manager building software reaching from backend solutions for content moderation to cloud services creating hazard warnings from sensor data coming out of cars. In Germany, she is well known for her involvement with the working group against internet blocking and censorship.

As Head of Software & Development at Wikimedia Deutschland, Franziska is responsible for 40 people ranging from Community Communication Specialists over Product Managers and Designers to Software Engineers. Wikidata is the biggest project being developed by the department. During the last six years, it’s become a central hub in the landscape of linked open data, containing more than 50 million items.
