We are pleased to announce that applications to the Fellowship Programme 2020 are now open (24th September 2019). The deadline for applications is 23:59 GMT on Tuesday, 29th October 2019. The Institute will be running a Fellows 2020 Launch Webinar on Friday, 11th October 2019 from 15:00-16:00 BST.

The Fellowship Programme run by the Software Sustainability Institute provides funding for individuals who want to improve how research software is done in their domains and/or area of work. Being a Fellow also helps develop skills and knowledge in their area of software sustainability, empowers them to speak about software sustainability issues and network with like-minded individuals from a wide variety of research areas.

Each Fellow will be allocated £3,000 to spend from 1st January 2020 until 31st March 2021. The funding is flexible to support activities that are beneficial to both the Fellows and the Institute. For example, the funding can be used to:

  • travel to conferences

  • set up and run workshops

  • organise software sustainability sessions at domain conferences

  • nurture or contribute to communities of practice, or

  • host, organise or teach training events, such as through the Carpentries.

For examples of activities funded by the Fellowship Programme, have a look at some of our Fellows’ blog posts.

Fellows are drawn from a wide range of areas, experience, and career stages. Visit our Fellows’ profiles to read more about those awarded Fellowships in previous years.

Please visit the Fellowship Programme page for further information.

If you have questions about the Programme, please contact Rachael Ainsworth, Institute Community Manager at fellows-management@software.ac.uk.
