Venues and transport information

CarpentryConnect Manchester 2019 will be held at two different venues, shown in the map below.

If you are arriving to Manchester Airport, the best way to get to city centre (or the venues) is by train to Piccadilly Rail Station. Trains run every 10 minutes to or from Manchester Piccadilly, with an average journey time of 20 minutes. There are also various taxi companies that run from the airport.

For getting around Manchester, see https://www.visitmanchester.com/visitor-information/travel-information/getting-around.

Day 1 - Day 2 (25 - 26th June): The Studio

On the first two days, our venue is The Studio, in the heart of Manchester city centre's Northern Quarter:

The Studio
The Hive
51 Lever Street
Manchester M1 1FN

Getting there

The Studio's website provide more detailed directions on how to get to the venue - summary is provided below.

The best way to reach it from the airport by public transport is to take a train to the Piccadilly Rail Station and then walk for around 10 minutes. On leaving Piccadilly Station via ‘Piccadilly’ exit, turn right, walking down the ramp towards the city centre and Piccadilly Gardens. Follow the path until you see Tesco Express on your left hand side. Cross over Newton Street and take the next turning on the right into Lever Street, continue along crossing Back Piccadilly, Dale Street, Stevenson Square and Faraday Street. The Studio is located on your left at 51 The Hive.

Day 3 (27th June): Kilburn Building, University of Manchester

In the third day, we will be based at the School of Computer Science, Kilburn Building, in the Oxford Road campus of the University of Manchester:

Kilburn Building
Oxford Road
Manchester M13 9PL

Getting there

University of Manchester's website provides excellent transport information, directions and campus and city maps. A summary is provided below.

Kilburn Building is within walking distance from both Oxford Road Rail Station (10 minutes) and Piccadilly Rail Station (20 minutes).

All buses that run along Oxford Road will stop at the Kilburn Building (the stop after the Aquatics Centre). Buses may originate from different locations but will all eventually join Oxford Road (though they may do so at different points). Bus services that run down Oxford Road include:

  • Buses from Piccadilly Bus Station: 14, 16, 41, 42, 43, 43a, 44, 45a, 48, 111, 140, 142, 157, 250
  • Buses from Cross Street outside Boots the Chemist: 47, 87, 50, 143, 197, 291
  • Bus from Piccadilly Train Station: 147
  • Bus from Victoria Station: 42
  • Bus from Shudehill Interchange: 18

There is also a tram service - alight at St Peter's Square and walk for 15 minutes or catch a bus down Oxford Road.
