With two weeks until the Collaborations Workshop 2018 (CW18) kicks off, we can't hold our excitement and need to tell you what’s waiting for you from Monday 26th to Wednesday 28th March 2018 at The School of Mathematics, Cardiff University.
At Collaborations Workshop 2018, you’ll find an amazing group composed of researchers, developers, innovators, managers, funders, publishers, leaders and educators. All of them play an important role in shaping the culture of our society and without them we would probably live in a very different world. Throughout the event, we will facilitate discussions about culture change, productivity, and sustainability within the this group.
Talks
As announced earlier on our website, we have Kirstie Whitaker and John Hammersley as keynotes on Monday 26 March. They will talk about the themes of this Collaborations Workshop: culture change and productivity. On the next day, we will have short talks from Adrian-Tudor Panescu, Daniel S. Katz, Naomi Penfold and Matthew Upson about software sustainability from different perspectives. All these will be seeds for discussion during the three days of Collaborations Workshop.
Discussion
Enabling discussions is at the heart of our Collaborations Workshops. For CW18, we will have one panel each day. For the first discussion panel, Martin Donnelly, Caroline Jay and James Baker will join our keynote speakers to answer questions about culture change and productivity. The second panel will take place on Tuesday 27th March about sustainable software practice with the presence of Daniel S. Katz, Alys Brett, Carina Haupt, Louise Brown. In addition to these panels, we will also run a discussion session and collaborative ideas. If you don't know what these sessions are about, we recommend you reading our previous blog post.
Mini-workshops
During the two days of Collaborations Workshop 2018, we will host eight mini-workshops. All mini-workshops are listed on the website. In addition to the activities announced last month, we will have Carina Haupt, Tobias Schlauch and Jeremy Cohen conducting sessions around community building, Alexander Struck leading a session about registry for research software repositories, and James Grant covering automation for reproducible research.
Hackday
After great discussions, amazing ideas hatch in our minds. So, why not start shaping some of those ideas into a concrete form? The night of Tuesday 27th March and all Wednesday 28th are reserved for our hackday. In previous years, we’ve seen interesting ideas to boost researchers productivity born during the hackday, for example, recipy. We are confident that this edition won’t be different. We also have prizes for the best ideas and hackday products.
Social
To allow time for informal conversations, we will be hosting a walking city center tour on Monday between 18:00 and 18:45. After the tour, we will have our workshop dinner. For all the early birds, we’ve planned a morning tour on Bute Park between 08:00 and 09:15 on Tuesday.
If you haven’t register for Collaborations Workshop 2018, what are you waiting for? We only have a few tickets left, so don't miss your chance to attend this event that promises to be revolutionary.
