I am currently a doctoral researcher in computational/theoretical neuroscience & complex systems at the University of Sussex where I validate information-theoretic measures of complexity and emergence in canonical models of complex dynamical systems to inform empirical research. My academic work so far has been strongly interdisciplinary, intersecting mathematics, machine learning, neuroscience, complexity science as well as philosophy.
I am also a research software engineer (RSE) within a newly established central RSE team at King's College London. The central RSE team, in turn, is more broadly embedded within the e-research group that helps enable and facilitate computational and data-intensive research across KCL Faculties.
I care about open & reproducible research (and, in this context, good research software) that is aligned with ethical research culture & incentives. An essential bulk of my own doctoral work consists of scientific coding/writing research software. I so far had come across many obstacles related to software many times, impairing my productivity as a researcher tremendously. For my Fellowship project, I aimed to send a strong signal for SSI’s slogan “better software, better research” by providing research software development training to research communities I’m involved in myself.
Besides software and science, I have also been teaching German to refugees and working as a psychologist for unaccompanied refugee minors. I've been also involved in human rights work and worked as research data scientist in medical education research.
