The Software Sustainability Institute has launched a prestigious, new Fellowship programme that recognises outstanding UK-based researchers who use software. The Fellowships come with up to £3000 funding which can be used for travel, collaboration and running events.

Enquiries about the fellowships can be made at the Fellowship Launch event at the Digital Research 2012 Conference, Oxford on 10 September 2012. Registration for Digital Research is free for those who attend the launch event. You will get a chance to meet some of those on the Institute's Agents programme (the forerunner to the Fellowship Programme). Applicants to the Fellowship Programme put themselves in an advantageous position if we have met them already at the workshop.

The Software Sustainability Institute is a national facility enabling researchers and developers to build and use better research software. The Fellowship Programme is for promising thought-leaders in different fields of research to work with the Institute while developing their careers. Fellows alert the Institute and their communities to important software, evangelise software practices and champion the adoption of best-of-breed software.

Funding for Fellows

The funding is flexibly tailored for each Fellow to help with travel to conferences, setting up and running workshops, starting new collaborations or hosting/teaching at Software Carpentry training events. Fellows are expected to contribute to our social media (blog and Twitter) and are supported in advertising their own research.

Who we are looking for

We are seeking to appoint fifteen outstanding Fellows at different career stages, from PhD students to Professors, in a wide range of research areas in science, technology and engineering that rely on software. Fellowships last eighteen months from 1 January 2013. Successful Fellows will have a demonstrable knowledge and visibility in their community and have excellent formal and informal communication skills, both written and spoken.

How to apply

If you would like to apply for our Fellowship programme, please fill in the application form. Once we have received your details, we will confirm your application by email. We will announce the successful recipients of the Software Sustainability Institute's Fellowships in November 2012.

The closing date for applications is Thursday 20 September 2012 at 5pm.

If you have any questions, please contact us at the fellows enquiry email address.
